I’ve been making octopuses from this amazingly translucent Canadian Polar Ice porcelain. They are as white as white can be. But a person needs to branch out and explore and a very Black clay has been calling me. Octopuses in black? Yes, well … yes.
hush … here comes 2 now This one is so curious and comes right up to me.
We have a good long stare at each other,
eye to eye.
Then she scurries off, or walks quickly, or slides and slithers away … whatever they do, she’s gone.
Oh wait here comes another! Be very still now … This one is pretty brave, right away she comes right up to me a closer look at me. Am I a friend or a foe or just dinner?
… and I quote ~Sitting up with weight on bottom, forelegs stretched, ears up and looking alert – the “classic” rabbit pose Your rabbit is looking around to see what’s going on, usually thinking about what to do next and is often a prelude to grooming. It may be rocking slightly due to its weight being balanced on its four feet close together – Sitting up on hind legs with ears up and nose pointed up Wild rabbits do this just to get a better view and have a look around for possible danger. Domestic rabbits are more likely to be requesting food that you are holding or trying to get your attention.
Sitting with weight on bottom, washing face with front feet, pulling ears down to lick them, twisting around to groom back and sides No prizes for this one – your rabbit is grooming itself – Ear positions
If a rabbit points its ears forward it is curious about something. If it puts them straight up it is alarmed and trying to listen better. If it folds them flat on its back it is frightened and trying to make itself inconspicuous.
I have left this new Life Boat at my studio to dry at a snails pace for a few weeks. A large porcelain piece like this tend to encourage tiny cracks here and there so I put Time in charge to be on the look out for any signs of danger. There are lots of backing and forthing going on here, I don’t know even the half of it ~
I’ve been busy in my clay studio making Imaginaries. They are little fine porcelain creatures that come right out from my imagination straight into being
Some are always ready to catch a ball or
ready to run and greet you at the door after your long day Some are peaceful (that little guy in the background is one of those always ready to chase a bird or is he just watching some one climbing a tree?) They are little Connectors.
Each one has a story to tell. I quietly listen and search as they take shape and form through my fingers and understandings. They don’t leave my hands until I feel a connection with them, until I have found their story. This interaction assures the possibility of someone else making a connection and hearing a story too, of their own making.
That’s the plan anyway.
It might even be a small story like this one ~ “and … I’m just wondering if you you might perchance have a yummy delicious little sweet for me in your pocket? I do so love persimmons.”
See what I mean? They are always chatting me up.
What do you do when the way things are going get you down? I could go on and on but we all know what’s going on, going down.
What do I do? I build Life Boats. They reconnect me back to connecting. They remind me of hope and the power and privilege of being alive.
There is a moment and then there are many moments where we have possibility. And I believe every possibility emanates out. Maybe these connections are nano, electric, quantum events we don’t really understand yet. But I think they have a real tangible substance.
This is the cue to casually laugh and say we’re probably crazy….. this is the libretto of our times.
But I wonder ….. There are new waters to test.
And it doesn’t matter which way you go or how you connect, it just matters That you connect.
