sequins & seed beads

I visited a gallery in Seattle that was showing Haitian sequin flags and I was completely dazzled! I would spend the next 3 years making pieces using my own imagery. This technique contains both 2 and 3 dimensions. They change colour and texture with every view point and every nuance of light. It’s always changing.

Each sequin is sewn down onto a muslin backing with one glass seed bead with coloured quilting thread. Different coloured seed beads and thread inform the shades of the sequins making for an extensive palette with a limited amount of materials…. I like that
